Cutting Edge Entertainment was formed in Houston in 1976 by David Cooper.
He had a couple of partners and did private and club shows through the
late 70's and early eighties. In 1986, Dave and his partners decided to
go their separate ways, and Dave wound up with the title to the business
and one of the remaining systems. He decided to bring the company to San
Antonio in 1987 and began operating with his one system. Dave felt that
by operating in an extremely professional manner, putting the customer
first, and providing the best possible service, the word would spread
and a repeat client base would begin to build. That it did, and within
two years, Dave had added four more systems, began offering lighting,
and hired additional disc-jockeys. In 1991, he began marketing efforts
in the Austin market, and in 1992, added karaoke service. A secretary
was hired to keep up with the calls, but Dave continued to do most of
everything else. He hired and trained his disc-jockeys, repaired equipment,
put all of the music libraries together, and handled just about every
aspect of the business. He was working out of his home with his dining
room becoming his office and his living room becoming his "music-assembling"
room. This became difficult and he was running out of space, so Dave moved
the business into a 4400 sq. ft. office on Huebner Road. Doing everything
himself evidently caught up with him and come 1993, he began to grow an
interest in other avenues. In 1994, Dave decided to pass the baton. He
sold the business to two of his best DJs that joined him in 1990 (currently
the President and Vice-President). With the help of outside investors,
a new corporation was formed and the business was sold to the corporation
on April 1, 1994. Because everything had gone so well, very few changes
were made in the operations of the company. An effort was placed to make
sure the quality of service could be the best it possibly could be. Today,
we have eighteen entertainers and an office staff. The San Antonio market
continues to widen its reputation, with the Austin and Corpus markets
becoming an integral part of the company's foundation. To avoid the burning
out the previous owner experienced, the current owners have delegated
duties to office and operations managers, and to keep active with other
interests as well. Our president works on the air at 99.5 KISS, a San
Antonio rock station and our vice-president is a computer programmer at
a major insurance firm. An effort is made DAILY to remember all of the
hard work that it took to establish where we are today and to continue
to provide the public Entertainment with a Touch of Class. |
